Francis John Valerio is a third-year Communication Arts student at Adamson University and he's also a Grab Food driver. He started delivery service in 2019, but even before that, he already worked at a fast food restaurant.
His class starts in the morning until the afternoon, then he will start delivering food by 6 p.m. until 12 midnight. Francis had to work full-time to support his family due to the pandemic, which makes his work and online school schedules complicated. So instead of stopping and wasting his scholarship, he would go online and attend classes between his deliveries instead. For him, time management is very important especially for working students.
When his photo that was taken by his friend went viral, Francis got inspired by the positive comments by the netizens.
“Yung impact po sa akin nito, sobrang natuwa po ako. Sobrang na-appreciate ko ‘yung ginagawa ko. Mas naging positive po ako sa pananaw ko sa buhay,” he shares.
Despite the hardships, Francis remains inspired by his family and his dreams to keep going.
“Ayoko ko po huminto ng pag-aaral kahit sobrang mahirap. At tsaka ayoko po ma-miss yung opportunity na binigay sa’kin [para] mag-aral dahil yung scholarship ko po mawawala ‘pag nag-stop ako.”
