Whoever said "you can't have the best of both worlds" clearly hasn't watched Hannah Montana met or heard of Yusan Lin. She's a 26-year-old student and model who, upon finishing her undergraduate degree in Taiwan, was confronted with a choice to pursue a full-time modeling career or a PhD. Instead of picking just one, Yusan decided to combine both her interests in fashion and computer science. Now studying data mining (and other related courses) at Penn State, Yusan still models on the side, and takes turns researching about fashion trends and wearing them.
"I thought it would be a great idea to merge my interests and apply data-mining techniques to fashion data," she tells Teen Vogue.
Right now, Yusan is working on predicting fashion trends. "We're trying to see whether we can learn from history and see what will repeat or be the next big thing!" she adds. As to when this technology can be used, we can't tell. All we know is that it's going to be a "really long term project," according to Yusan.
