Just as how K-dramas have amassed a loyal international fanbase, Thai series are also starting to gain traction overseas, including here in the Philippines. If you’re in dire need of a new show to binge-watch, then you’ve probably had friends recommend you the Thai series called Girl From Nowhere.

The supernatural thriller revolves around a character named Nanno, impressively played by Thai actress Kitty Chicha Amatayakul.

If you’ve finished the series (it’s available for streaming on Netflix, FYI) already and can’t get enough of the 26-year-old actress, we did the Googling so you didn’t have to. Here are a few things to know about her:

She’s named after Hello Kitty.

Nope, ‘Kitty’ isn’t a nickname she just adopted, it’s really part of her birth name and it’s given to her by her dad. “Many people thought that I made it up,” Kitty shared in a Thai show called Loukgolf's English Room.

“When my mom was giving birth to me, my dad was actually in Japan,” she added. “And when he was flying back, he tried to pick up a gift. And he learned that, at that time, Hello Kitty was very popular. So he decided that maybe it might be a nice name for a girl.”

She’s into scriptwriting.

As you read on, you’ll start to realize that Kitty is multi-talented. Aside from being an actress, she also dabbles a bit in writing scripts.

She used to be part of a girl group.

Before officially pursuing a career in acting, Kitty was part of a five-piece Thai girl group called Kiss Me Five. Some of their songs include “One Last Chance” and “Sensitive”. But in the future, Kitty hopes to work on music again and release solo projects that’s a bit different from what she did with her former group.

Kitty Chicha Amatayakul movies

Her movie roles so far include Monica in Net I Die, and Kat in TV movie Scholar.

A role she’d like to take on in the future is Joker.

If there’s anything to learn about her from her portrayal of Nanno in Girl Of Nowhere, it’s that Kitty doesn’t like to play it safe with her roles. In an interview with Lifestyle Asia, Kitty shares that, in the future, she’d love to portray the role of Joker. “I feel that it’s every actor’s dream role. It’s really amazing!”

Harry Styles follows her on Insta, NBD.

Just a little fun fact, Kitty is Instagram mutual with the former One Direction member. She currently has 1.2 million followers to date. You can follow her at kittychicha for updates! She's currently also being followed by Magui Ford and Vivoree Esclito.

Kitty says Nanno is like the voice in her head.

In the same interview with Loukgolf's English Room, Kitty likens Nanno to ~that~ voice in everyone’s head. She shared, “She’s like everyone’s ego. She’s the one inside your mind who knows what’s wrong and what’s right. She’s like everyone’s dark side.”
