With all the spending for both needs and wants, it gets quite difficult to save up. But saving money shouldn’t be another one of your unkept New Year’s resolutions. That's why we came up with every Candy Girl's ultimate guide to saving money.

The first thing a Candy Girl should do to save money is to start! Congratulations for reaching this far. To help you out further, here are a few tips and ways to save money for that concert you’ve been dying to go to, those freshly pressed books from your favorite authors, that trip with your friends you've been excited for, or, if you love planning ahead, for your future!

  1.  Deposit your savings into a bank account. Though you aren't going to earn much, doing so will keep your money safe, instead of tempting you to buy things while it's in your wallet. To actually spend, you'll have to make an extra step of withdrawing the money.

  2. Opt for DIY gifts for your mom's birthday, bestie's graduation, or any other celebration. It’s great fun and surprisingly easy to make (since anything done with love never actually is a chore), plus really inexpensive.

  3. Keep your loose change. Drop them into your piggy bank. If you diligently put a few coins into it every day, you'll be surprised by the amount of money you can save up in a year!

  4. Limit your frappuccino/designer coffee spending. Try the hot chocolate or coffee that comes in sachets instead. But, don’t deprive yourself of your favorite drink! Make it a reward for yourself after a hard week’s work.

  5. Recycle and redesign old clothes. This is another fun DIY project that you can do with your barkada. This way, you spend a little less on clothing, and a lot more time with the people you love!

  6. Paint your own nails, or let your bestie paint them for you, and then do the same for her. You don't need to shell out a lot of money to get the perfect manicure. With a little practice, you just might be able to paint nails (and nail art) like a pro!

  7.  Exercise out of the gym. With a yoga mat or even a towel, a skipping rope, good music, and your trusty running shoes, there are plenty of exercises you could do to stay fit and healthy.

  8.  Set a reasonable monthly budget. When you eat out, go shopping, or go on a vacation, make sure you only spend within your budget, or even less.

  9. Bring packed lunch to school, whether you are in middle school, high school, or even college. It's a great way to save your allowance!

  10. Carpool. This helps you save up on gas and gives you more time to chat about the shoes you've been eyeing or the cute guy in your class with your best friends!

  11. Lessen fast food and go healthy. Apples, bananas, peanut butter sandwiches, and yogurt are much healthier (and cheaper, in the long run) than onion rings and double patty burgers.

  12. Get a job! Why not earn some extra cash by tutoring, pet-sitting, or writing for a company? Aside from earning, you gain experience which will help you in the future!

  13. When grocery shopping, go for the bigger packs, buy them in bulk or multi-packs. Usually, you get a better deal doing this than buying items piece by piece. Doing a little math won't hurt, and it definitely helps in saving money!

  14. Sell the stuff you don't use anymore, from books, to toys, and even your old baby clothes. You get to earn some extra cash and free up some space in your closets and drawers.

  15. Make a distinction between what you NEED versus what you WANT. Always prioritize your needs above your wants. Once you're sure you’ve got everything you need and have already set aside money to save, you then have the option to indulge in the things you want.
