This Girl Went Viral After Opening Up About Having Two Moms

"I don't see anything but love here, but somehow they hate it so much."

Sophiya Montano’s post went viral on Facebook because of her story about growing up in a non-traditional family. Sophiya was raised by her two moms since she was two months old. At a very young age, she experienced a lot of discrimination, but her parents taught her to stand her ground and tell people what she really feels.

Studying in a sectarian school as a kid was a struggle for her too because of the traditional and religious teachings—like how the basic unit of a family is composed of a father and a mother—and growing up with two moms, the teachings made her upset. She shares, “Sometimes as a child, it really hurts you to not be able to hear what your family’s composed of. I don’t see anything but love here, but somehow they hate it so much.”

For Sophiya, the good thing about growing up is that she’s surrounded by people who support and love her.
