"So, you want to be a nurse."

While many girls are studying to work as nurses abroad to provide for their families, do they really know what it entails? A Filipina nurse shares her story.

Iris Manuel wanted to be a doctor but her parents encouraged her to study nursing instead. She did not want to become a nurse because she knew it was going to be dirty work. Motivated by her love for wildlife and the outdoors, Iris began college as a zoology major, but by sophomore year, she shifted to nursing. "Nursing is a good stepping stone to med school," Iris declared. Here she experience the vert things she did not like about nursing. "It was sickening initially, dealing with crap. One time I had to clean a patient's vomit. Right after that, I ran to the bathroom to throw up."
