While content creation is definitely a legitimate career path now that people can make money from it, vlogging isn't always about the money. For many others, it's a means to express themselves, or in silent vlogger Kristine Diane Cajes Rosal AKA Simple Dee's case, a means to cope with major life events.

What is a silent vlog?

Silent vlogs are popular in Japan and Korea, and it's a format that doesn't rely on hosting or narration. Instead, vloggers share snippets of their daily lives or passion projects without showing their faces and with minimal to absolutely no audio. They're meant to be less focused on the vlogger and more on the subject and the small details we typically overlook. It's a great format for shy people who want to get into vlogging, or those simply looking for a new way to share their hobbies with others.

For Simple Dee, silent vlogging was also one way to cope with losing her job during the pandemic. While transitioning into becoming a stay-at-home mom, she turned to silent vlogs to explore her creative side while adjusting to her new responsibilities at home. "Ït's not just for the viewers to find peace and calm through silent vlogs," she says. "But for me too as a creator... It's like sharing with your audience how you recover."
