Secret of My Success
Some of you might remember 20-year-old Chynna Ortaleza as one of the spunky child wonders in the now-defunct kiddie show, 5 and Up. But it was in the famous Sprite commercial that she kitikitexted her way into show business and our consciousness.
Catch her on TV in GMA's Click, Habang Kapiling Ka, and SOP. When asked whom she'd like to thank for her success, her choice is quite surprising. "I'd thank Che Che Lazaro, and the people at Probe Productions. Tita Che Che found the perfect formula for teaching kids the importance of work while learning and having fun," she says.
Her discovery story is a classic. "My cousin and I were into two weeks of a really boring summer. To get us off their backs, our moms enrolled us in a Kiddie Cooking Class at CCA. That summer, Probe Production's 5 and Up was looking for exceptional kids they could feature. They got me, and the producer thought I was a natural on-cam. She said she'd give me a call when they're ready to audition regular reporters. The next summer, I was doing my first story!" she recalls
"The experiences I had at 5 and Up gave me the confidence to believe in myself. The training helped me become more comfortable in front of the camera. Print ads and TV commercials soon followed. The Sprite ad convinced the people at GMA to cast me as Mimi in Click." And the rest is showbiz history.
"One day, I'd like to walk up to Che Che Lazaro and surprise her-show her that the 12-year-old Chynna has grown up and is able to stand on her own merits. I'd tell her, ‘Tita Che Che, thank you for making all these possible for me."
