No one expected it to end this way.

The viral ostrich that was caught on video last week running around a village in Quezon City has reportedly been cooked as adobo, according to a report by ABS-CBN News.

The giant bird allegedly died of stress after people chased it around Mapayapa Village 3 in Quezon City on August 4.

Officials from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) investigated what happened. The DENR summoned the owner of the ostriches on Monday, August 10, to explain why the two ostriches escaped this week.

The officials also looked for evidence of where the ostrich was buried and whether the animal has indeed died. But the truth came out when the owner admitted that the ostrich had not been buried but was butchered and cooked as adobo after it died of stress.

There were two ostriches, but the surviving ostrich was turned over by the owner to the DENR and is currently in the rescue center of the Biodiversity Management Bureau.
