This Fine Arts Student is Attending Online Classes from Canada
Online classes have its own unique advantages, but they also unearth all sorts of struggles for students. Some encounter problems with resources like devices and internet connection, both of which are essential in a remote learning setup. Others have to deal with a different kind of setback.
For instance, have you ever tried attending classes in the wee hours of the morning? It's not exactly the most ideal setup, but for college student Laira Janniene Hernandez, that's what she'll have to get used to for now as she takes online classes from the other side of the world.
Laira is currently a Fine Arts student enrolled in a university in the Philippines, but she had to fly back to Canada in the middle of the pandemic because that's where her family is based. While it has its benefits (she gets to be with her family and still attend online classes), it also has its own downsides (she will have to adjust her daily schedule and her body clock to accommodate her classes in the Philippines).
Laira shared that her biggest struggle would have to be the time differences, especially since the Philippines is 15 hours ahead of Canada. She'd have to be studying and in front of her laptop at around 3 or 4 a.m. just to show up for class.
