Online classes aren't easy, but if there's one advantage that it gives students, it's that they can still continue with their education despite the distance. Some students, especially those who used to dorm just to attend colllege, were able to go back home and still continue on with the semester. For others, though, it's still a struggle, especially if their school and their home are in completely different timezones.
That's the case for this Pinay student who vlogged about her experience with navigating through online classes as an international student. YouTuber Katie Tracy is an international student at Cornell University in New York City, but she's currently based in the Philippines because of the pandemic.
In her vlog, Katie shares that she couldn't attend most of her classes because of the different timezones. Most of the classes are either in-person or a hybrid of in-person and online classes, both of which she can't do. While those that she can attend are scheduled between 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. in the Philippines. She even had to get up at 1 a.m. just so she could enroll.
Apart from academics, Katie also had to sacrifice her extracurriculars, which she used to be active in before. Most of her extracurricular activities happen in New York's timezone, which is around bed time here in the Philippines. And because she couldn't attend org meetings in real time, she offered to do work before and after the meetings to compromise.
