These College Courses are the "Most Versatile," According to LinkedIn Data
In college, your course doesn't necessarily indicate the industry you'll find yourself in after graduation. While our majors may influence the career path we hope to take in the future, they also don't limit us when it comes to choosing prospective jobs, even if they're a bit outside of our comfort zone.
If you have a career path in mind but are still unsure or undecided (or if you just want to keep choices varied), taking a college course that's versatile enough to land you a job in various industries might be an option.
In case you still need help deciding which course to take, employment and networking website LinkedIn shared the top 10 college majors that led to different jobs. According to their 2019 data these courses are:
- Business Administration and Management
- Political Science and Government
- Computer Science
- Information Technology
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the workforce all over the world, many of the college courses on LinkedIn's list still remain highly relevant and important. According to JobStreet Philippines, fields like IT-enabled services, information technology, government, and education, are the top industries still hiring during the pandemic.
Graduates of Information Technology and even Computer Science may still land IT-related jobs, Political Science and even Sociology graduates can pursue a career related to public service and government, Psychology graduates have potential in education and BS Psychology graduates in particular have the option to pursue further studies in medicine, and Finance, Economics, and even Business graduates have potential in the field of finance.
Still, choosing your college course shouldn't solely be based on which ones can easily land you a job. It's important to really assess the long-term effects of sticking to a certain major. While you have the option to shift, there are still cases of people feeling like they took the wrong course in college, which can negatively impact their overall college experience. Are you in it for practicality or for your passion? It's a question only you can answer depending on your situation, but know that there is no right or wrong option.
