Anybody who's part of the body positivity movement knows who Ashley Graham is. For one thing, she's the first plus-size model to ever grace the cover of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue. Plus, remember when Joe Jonas handpicked her to be his lady love for his band's music video? The Internet cheered. But Ashley has done so much more than that.
She's helped thousands of women embrace and celebrate their bodies—flaws and all. In an article she wrote for Lenny Letter, Ashley talked about problems she encounters as a plus-size model: "To some I'm too curvy. To others I'm too tall, too busty, too loud, and, now, too small—too much, but at the same time not enough. When I post a photo from a 'good angle,' I receive criticism for looking smaller and selling out. When I post photos showing my cellulite, stretch marks, and rolls, I'm accused of promoting obesity. The cycle of body-shaming needs to end. I'm over it."
And days before hosting the Miss Universe pageant, she was with Pia Wurtzbach in Bohol where she tried malunggay ice cream...
...and did a little bit of lounging by the beach. But our favorite moment is this:
Ashley wrote, "I work out. I do my best to eat well. I love the skin I'm in. And I'm not ashamed of a few lumps, bumps, or cellulite…and you shouldn't be either."
