On August 2, Pres. Rodrigo Duterte announced that Metro Manila and its neighboring provinces will go back to modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) on August 4, as a response to the urgent call of frontliners who asked for a timeout and reevaluation of the government's plans to arrest the rising cases of COVID-19 cases in the country.

As of August 2, the Philippines has surpassed the 100,000 mark with 103,185 total recorded cases. Total recoveries are logged at 65,557, and deaths at 2,059.

Shortly after the announcement, different LGUs started issuing updates on their social media pages regarding their plans.

Mayors Vico Sotto and Isko Moreno both issued statements that their offices will shift to a skeletal workforce for the time being.

Mayor Vico also cautioned against the spread of misinformation at this time, and urged the public to wait for proper guidelines from the IATF.

Public transportation will also be suspended during MECQ, but DOTr has also announced that their Libreng Sakay program for health workers will continue to operate. One netizen, however, posted out that taxis and Grab will also help frontliners travel during this time, a sentiment Mayor Vico agreed to in a tweet.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Vice President issued a call for volunteers, possibly for VP Robredo's #BayanihanSugbuanon efforts. Should you be interested to participate, you may send an email to ovpcovid19volunteers@gmail.com.

If you're not a frontliner, the best things you can do in the meantime is to stay home, follow the rules of virus spread prevention, and to support those out in the field in any way you can. Aside from volunteering, sharing and helping spread calls for donations and other relief efforts are highly encouraged.
