Maranao Summa Cum Laude Will Talk About Marawi City Crisis in His Speech

He also shares tips on graduating with Latin honors.

Arman Ali Ghodsinia, a Maranao whose roots can be traced to Marawi City, will be graduating from UP Diliman with a degree in BS Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. Arman has a General Weighted Average of 1.176 and will be graduating with Latin honors. He is set to deliver a speech on behalf of the graduating class in the university's 106th General Commencement Exercises on Sunday, June 25.

Arman said that even though he was born and raised in Manila, he still feels sad about the situation of his family's hometown, especially now that it's the Holy Month of Ramadan. "Isipin niyo po ngayon ay Holy Month ng Ramadan at karamihan ng muslim doon ay nag-fa-fast. Ako nga dito hirap na hirap, paano pa kaya sila."

When asked by GMA's Unang Balita if he'll talk about the current state of Marawi in his valedictory address, here's what he said:

"I-a-address ko po ang aking mga batchmates na ga-graduate na Iskolar ng Bayan. Uudyukin ko sila na na 'wag kalimutan ang Pilipinas, ang mga nag-paaral sa kanila—na kahit saan man kami pumunta ay bumalik pa rin kami dito—at aming bigyang pansin ang mga nag hi-hirap. At dahil po may personal na koneksyon ako sa kaguluhan sa Mindanao ay mas binigyan ko ng diin ang nangyayari doon.

As for his tips on graduating summa cum laude, Arman said that there are a lot of factors. He shared two of them: God and sipag.

"I'm thankful for God because binigay na sa akin halos lahat ng kailangan ko. Masipag ang mga magulang ko dahil nga 'di sila lumaki sa kayamanan. Ngayon na nagkataon [na meron] sila, binigay nila lahat ng kailangan ko para mag-aral, so ngayon ang focus ko para sa magulang ko, para sa mga taong nag-pa-aral sa akin, gagalingan ko mag-aral. So yun, nag-sipag din po ako." (via
