Have you ever had a really bad day, only to have your tears of frustration finally get triggered by something relatively small like tripping on your own two feet, or spilling food on your shirt? Don't worry, it happens to the rest of us. Ganyan lang talaga lumalabas ang feelings natin minsan. And when it's time to rant, you sometimes just wanna feel validated and ~seen~ by your SO or BFFs

Enter writer and comedian Cassie Cao, whose cute screenshot about her oh-so-considerate boyfriend's reply to her mini-food rant went viral on Twitter. And while it may seem like nothing more than a cute response to a shawarma problem, it's actually a really good example of healthy communication and being a good listener.

Exactly, and asking before you react can make all the difference. Not everyone with a problem wants or even needs advice, sometimes, they just need someone to listen.

As a feature on Psychology Today wittern by Aldo Civico Ph.D. notes, "The best way to give advice is not to give advice at all, but instead to listen deeply.

"Rather than saying, 'Here is what you need to do,' we need to shut up and open the ear of our heart. We need to create a space where the other person can articulate what is afflicting him or her. Rather than providing a response, it's much more productive to be curious about the person's situation and encourage the conversation with open ended questions. In articulating his or her problem, often the best solution becomes self-evident to our interlocutor—most of the time, the answer to a problem lies within us. All we need is to be reminded of how resourceful and powerful we can be."

And remember, the next time you catch yourself being upset that you're crying or feeling bad over something seemingly stupid, remember that it's perfectly human to feel triggered, even if you don't understand how or why you're reacting a certain way. And as long as you can still laugh at yourself once you pick yourself back up and gain some perspective, then all you're guilty of is having a totally human experience. Honestly, it happens to all of us.
