On July 10, 2020, the House hearing for the renewal of media network ABS-CBN’s broadcast franchise was held. The result of the hearing was 70-11, with 70 congressmen voting to deny the renewal of the network’s franchise.
While the hearing was ongoing, however, celebrities signed under the network as well as other personalities went out to the streets outside of the House of Representatives to stand in solidarity with ABS-CBN.
One of the celebrities spotted at the rally was Kathryn Bernardo. The 24-year-old actress has been vocal about her support for the network on social media but has since taken to the streets to join the rest of her colleagues in their collective call for a franchise renewal.
She was pictured holding up a sign that says, “Stand With ABS-CBN Workers!” together with her fellow Kapamilya stars. She also left a message to the youth who showed their support for her and her colleagues, saying, “Ramdam naming ang suporta niyo and let’s just hope for the best.”
Kathryn is one of the top stars signed under Star Magic, a subsidiary of ABS-CBN. Her most recent film, Hello, Love, Goodbye, became the highest grossing Filipino film of all time, beating the record of her other movie, The Hows of Us, both of which grossed at around P800 million each. She has been with the network since her acting debut in 2003 when she was only seven years old.
