Just In: UP Will Not Collect Any Fees This Semester
After months of going back and forth about whether or not the tuition fee in the University of the Philippines (UP) should be free, President Danilo L. Concepcion finally announced that the state university will not be collecting any tuition and other school fees.
This means that all Filipino undergraduate students are qualified except for the following:
- Those who already hold an undergraduate or bachelor's degree.
- Those who fail to meet admission and retention rules.
- Those who exceed the maximum residency requirement prescribed by the university.
- Students of medicine and law.
Students who are not qualified can still apply for financial assistance under the existing Socialized Tuition System or other scholarships. As for the Medicine students, they may avail of a tuition subsidy under the Tulong Medisina program.
Options to voluntarily opt-out of the free tuition will be made available, too.
