How To Keep Your High School Friends Close Even in College
Of course you believe that your friendship with your high school BFFs will last years and years after you toss those graduation caps as high up in the air as your dreams and aspirations, right?

People tell you all the time that high school won't last forever—and all the drama, heartbreaks, and friendships will die with it. Sure you don't actually believe that high school will last (hello, where did those four years go?) but of course you believe that your friendship with your high school BFFs will last years and years after you toss those graduation caps as high up in the air as your dreams and aspirations, right? Wrong!

Ideally, you'd be meeting each other every weekend or so for coffee and  brunch—but when class schedules, requirements, and figuring out that massive labyrinth of a university as compared to your small town high school comes into play, your plans of meeting up are pretty much just going to keep getting cancelled or moved until sadly, you all stop bothering to.

But it doesn't have to be that way! Here are 5 ways to keep your high school buddies close throughout all those busy days of college!

  1. Skype/FaceTime is your best friend

Be thankful that you're living in an age where Snapchat, Facebook, Skype, and FaceTime is a thing. Keeping tabs on each other has never been more simple! Keep that snap streak going *insert fire emoji here*!

  1. No excuses

Understand that everyone is busy with the new university life they're adjusting to—therefore, learn the value of scheduling mini-reunions months ahead and accepting NO EXCUSES whatsoever regarding not being able to show up (of course unless there's an emergency like someone getting rushed to the ER but either way…). It's always just a matter of prioritizing

  1. Understanding quality over quantity

And when you do finally get those mini-reunions, be sure to keep it lighthearted and fun! It doesn't have to be planned right down to what should be done at exactly what hour, minute, and second, but remember that those mini-reunions are for reconnecting and for spending time with your BFFs. Don't stress it too much and hey, the thrill spontaneity brings forth the best memories!

  1. Accept that people change and friendships fade

The only thing that's ever constant in the world is change—and that's a fact of life. Different people adapt to different surroundings and frankly, when you and your best friends head off to university, that change is unavoidable and most likely, because people experience things in different ways, you're not meeting up with exactly the same person you've known in high school. But embrace them nonetheless.

  1. Learn to carry on...

But that's no reason to mope and be sad! Yes, it sucks that such a wonderful friendship has come to an end (allow yourself to grieve, but don't grieve forever), just be happy that the friendship happened in the first place and be thankful that you were blessed to have such a wonderful person in your life to be with you through thick and thin, through all the laughter and tears, and all the victories and disappointments.

You'll meet many more people. Some you'll hate, some you'll be friends with for the rest of your life.

Some will leave, some will stay, either way...

Carry on.
