Are you an aspiring doctor? The road to M.D. is a long and challenging one, but for those who are intent on becoming a doctor, the journey will be worth it. The medical and healthcare field has proven to be one of the most in-demand industries, especially now that we're in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.
But just how much will it cost you to pursue your dream profession? Becoming a doctor isn't easy, even budget-wise. Tuition fees at select schools can reach as many as six digits per semester, and that still doesn't include the four or so years of your undergraduate pre-med course. But it still depends on which med school you wish to apply for (there are also scholarship programs in most schools, which you can apply for if you meet the requirements).
To give you an idea, here are the approximate costs of tuition fee in these medicine schools in recent years:
Ateneo de Manila University School of Medicine and Public Health
As of S.Y. 2017 to 2018, the tuition fee for ASMPH is around P151,000 per semester, which includes tuition, basic, miscellaneous, and laboratory fees. Tuition fees for the school, however, would normally increase annually by around five percent.
De La Salle Health Sciences Institute College of Medicine
In a video on her YouTube channel, former Pinoy Big Brother housemate and doctor Aura Azarcon shared that the tuition fee for DLSU's college of medicine costs around P269,647 for the first year of S.Y. 2016 to 2017.
Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila
PLM has a relatively more affordable rate for their tuition fees. For the first year in S.Y. 2015 to 2016, the full cost per semester is around P63,744. If you fall under Categories I and II or have graduated summa or magna cum laude in college, the tuition fees are cheaper.
University of Santo Tomas
In UST, the first term of the academic school year 2020 to 2021 can cost up to P143,463 which includs the laboratory and miscellaneous fees. Â
University of the Philippines College of Medicine
The college of medicine in UP Manila can take up to P50,649 per semester for those whose family income are around P1.3 million and above.
University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, Inc.
For UERM's college of medicine, tuition fees can take as much as P170,000 per year.
