This year's UAAP marked its 80th season by celebrating the theme "go for great." The opening ceremony kicked off by honoring its past. Legendary former athletes attended the event that definitely stirred wild cheers from the crowd.
The host university, FEU, went all out as they feted several athletes that won championships from different generations in the UAAP. These legends represented their universities as they walked down memory lane in the
Holding true to this season's theme, they definitely went for great as they invited Senator Pia Cayetano as she represented UP with Ronnie Magsanoc and Joe Lipa while the Blue Eagles were represented by Alyssa Valdez, Marck Espejo, and Jesse Lacuna.
Being the host, FEU's pep squad performed a small cheer as they opened for FEU's legends like Terrence Romeo and Rachel Daquis that got a loud cheer from the crowd. UST's Growling Tigers Cyrus Baguio and Dylan Ababou were also present. DLSU's Green Archers also celebrated Ian Lariba and Renren Ritualo.Â
UE's Rolando Canlas; NU's Danny Ildefonso, Rayray Parks and Tin Patrimonio; and Adamson's Ana Santiago and Queeny Sabobo were one of the greats who also attended the ceremony.
"We just hope that in this little way, we could still inspire a lot of players that they can get to many places through sports," said Sen. Pia Cayetano.
