When you’re born into a showbiz family, many would instantly assume that you will follow in their footsteps. For Hannah Pangilinan though, it’s about recognizing the resources she had and using that to pave her own path. “It was like a spring board for me. It was also a blessing, of course I live with a family where everybody’s entertainers. They’re going to compare you – especially because I love to sing and I never really dabbled there yet, but I was blessed to notice that nobody was doing Youtube yet at that time. That’s exactly why I use Hannah Kathleen on Youtube because I really want to differentiate myself from people saying ‘Oh she’s just using her family name to get famous,’” she says in an episode of Bianca Gonzales’s Paano Ba To?

From talking about life and self-care to sharing inspiration and vlogs, Hannah was able to grow her platform. Her Youtube channel now has over 380,000 subscribers and she also recently started her own podcast called Kwentos with Hannah which you can listen to on Spotify. Whether you’ve caught one of her videos or you’ve seen her in one of her close friend Janina Vela’s uploads, we’re sure you’ve noticed that she’s wise beyond her years. Hannah loves talking about her faith and the things she learned growing up. From finding your purpose to navigating daily life, here are some life lessons we learned from Hannah:

On getting out of your comfort zone:

“Growth happens in the uncomfortable places so I knew leaving was good. Hard, but good. It doesn’t matter where I am, I’m gonna be supported and loved by God.”

Hannah left Manila in 2019 to study a year-long course on Film and Television at Hillsong College in Sydney, Australia. She fully embraced the challenges of living independently, being open to new places, new people, and new learnings.

On accepting your mistakes and starting again:

“I don’t have to live in my past…. If battles come, if trials come, that’s not gonna put me down because I can redeem newness, and a new life, and a new self.”

On spending time with the people we love:

“If you wanna spend time with people, if you wanna invest in people, you have to take the time out to ask them ‘hey when can you spend time with me?’”

For her 21st birthday, Hannah shared the lessons she learned from 21 people who are closest to her. Her younger sister, Solana, always ask her, ‘When are you gonna spend time with me?’ In the vid, Hannah shared that spending time with people is not about “if you can,” but when.

On taking a leap of faith:

“Maybe I can encourage you that if God is calling you to do something great, something crazy something so out of what you thought you’re gonna do, there’s no use on worrying about it because if He wants it to happen, He’ll make it happen.”

On not knowing what to do with your life for now:

“To be honest, it’s okay to not know what you want to do…as you guys know, I’m a Christian and I know that whatever it is that you’re doing with that step of faith, God is gonna use it to be a learning experience for you so it doesn’t matter what you’re doing. Good experience, bad experience – it’s gonna turn you into a better person in the future.”

In the same episode with Bianca Gonzales, Hannah was asked to give advice to those who are finding their place in the world. It’s a given to feel intense pressure, especially when there are thousands of possibilities in front of you.

On finding your worth:

“People are not the benchmarks for whether or not you’re a valuable person. Likes are not, followers are not. Find your value from someone that cannot change their love for you. Me plus God equals to unconditional love. He loves me no matter what.”

On comparing yourself to others:

“Don’t compare your journey to another person’s because we all have different paces and plans in life. The amount of time you spend hating or comparing yourself to other people, that’s time away from making yourself a better person.”

On handling life's transitions:

“Whatever hinders you from being the person you want to be, let it go.”

In an episode of her podcast, one of her followers asked about going through life’s transitions. Hannah isn’t new to it after leaving home for school then coming home for good. She mentioned five ways to go through as many transitions – leveraging on the support you have from your loved ones, letting go of excess baggage, running toward your goal, persevering, and fixing your eyes on Jesus.
