Choosing a gown for your debut is one of the most crucial (and exciting) parts of your planning experience. It not only entails a lot of thorough research for pegs, but also demands patience as you decide on a design and attend multiple fittings.

Here are four tips to help you get the perfect gown for your debut!

  1. Search for pegs
Start scouting for inspirations of your dream gown online or in magazines. Doing so will give you a lot of options in choosing your gown--from the design, to the colors, embellishments, and fabric. Create an inspiration board (Pinterest may come handy), and show your pegs to your designer. Your pegs will help you describe what you want in terms of design. Remember to keep an open mind though-your designer might not be too keen on making a copy of someone else's gown down to the last detail.

  2. Know your body type and personality
You might have done your fair share of research for the gown design, but you should accept the possibility that a gown that a model or celebrity wore may not necessarily be flattering on you. You want a gown that fits you well, and part of achieving that is knowing your body shape. Don't hesitate to ask your designer to recommend gown silhouettes that complement your figure. A gown made for your shape will not only would draw attention to your assets, but it would also allow you to move freely and give you confidence in wearing it. It is also important to choose a design that suits your personality-don't be afraid to speak up if you're uncomfortable with the suggested design.

  3. Follow your debut's theme
Of course, your gown should match your debut's theme and the rest of the details in your party. You surely want to stand out and be as glamorous as you can be, but don't forget that your look still has to follow your chosen theme. You wouldn't want to look out of place in your own party, would you? Research on looks that match your theme, and then ask your designer to incorporate fancy details in the design.

  4. Keep within the budget
Your folks will most likely be in charge of the expenses, and from time to time, they might remind you of the budget for your debut. Ask your designer for gown options that are within your budget--you just might be surprised at the pretty and affordable styles. You may also style your gown with shoes, headpieces, and accessories. Be creative with the possibilities!
