From Our Readers: I Hope You Get to Know Her Before You Love Her
To the person who will love her, I hope you get to know her before you could say that you truly love her.
I hope you know her favorite food, which she claims she can eat for the rest of her life. I hope you know her favorite films, that for a split second you'll regret you watched it with her because she knows all the lines and she always says them. But in the end, you will know it's worth it. I hope you know her unconditional love for books, how she loves the feeling of getting lost in the stories. I hope you know her love for British TV shows, how she can spend a day just finishing them.
I hope you know her passion for dancing, how she knows people criticize her for that, but she still keeps going. I hope you know her love for indie rock bands, how she can feel the lyrics of the song and cry because of how beautiful they are. I hope you know her love for independent films, the love you will question why because you complain that the films have slow pacing. I hope you know her love for arts, how she claims she can't draw or can't paint, but she loves staring at it.
I hope you know she wants you to take her to the museum, or she wants you to take her to the beach and just stare at the waves. I hope you know that she likes traveling when it's 6 am, because she loves the feeling of seeing the sunrise while sitting in a car. I hope you know she loves staring at the moon, because the moon reminds her of herself. There will always be a part of her hidden.
I hope you know she loves swimming, but is afraid of the ocean. I hope you know she loves watching the sunset, because she thinks goodbyes can be beautiful. I hope you know that when she stares into nothing, she's thinking about her future. I hope you know she's afraid of ghosts. I hope you know she looks at people a lot, and when she does, she wonders what those people are going through. I hope you know her love for flowers, that seeing them will remind you of her smile. I hope you know that her words will forever inspire you, or haunt you. I hope you know how powerful she is.
I hope you know that she's always been insecure about her weight, about her body, her wonderful body. I hope you know she gets hurt when people point out she's not skinny, but acts like she doesn't care.
I hope you know she tries so hard to be independent, that she doesn't want people to save her. I hope you know that she doesn't want someone, but deep inside she knows that she needs one, but she doesn't admit it. I hope you know she cares. She cares about everything, but the way she acts like she doesn't will amaze you. I hope you know how big her problems are, how much she's been through. And when you know what those problems are, you'll wonder why she isn't broken. But the truth is, she is—so broken, but she will always pick up the pieces all by herself and make them look beautiful. I hope you know how smart she is, how her mind can be beautiful and dangerous at the same time.
I hope you know she is such a good friend, a good daughter, a good sister. How she cares for her friends, how she loves her family. I hope you know that when she loves you, she will always protect you. I hope you know that she fights for equality, that's how wonderful she is.
I hope you know she's tired of people complimenting her about her looks. I hope you know that she's not just gorgeous. Sure she is beautiful, so so beautiful, but she is more than that. Her soul is magical, ethereal, divine.
I hope one day, you will think that, that one soul can make the stars shine, can create the oceans, can plant flowers, can light up your life. I hope you will realize that she is a mixture of her favorite song, her lines from her favorite films, her favorite adventures from her favorite books, her favorite poem.
I hope you know she is a wolf, and a lioness at the same time. I hope you know that she's not like a wildfire, because she is the wildfire.
Before you claim you love her, I hope you won't call her "a girl", because she's not just a girl. She was never just a girl. And I hope you know that you will never ever forget her.
