With the ongoing call for the private sector and citizens to help prevent the further spread of COVID-19 in any way possible, the country's top universities have shown great initiative in helping those severely affected by the virus and the enhanced community quarantine.

Amid class suspensions, De La Salle University, in partnership with the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD), has converted the second floor of the Enrique Razon Sports Center into a temporary shelter for the homeless.

According to a report on the De La Salle University Facebook page, the center is currently serving as a shelter for 77* individuals, including women and senior citizens, and will continue to do so until the Luzon lockdown is lifted.

"The initiative is in partnership with the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD) through their KAin, LIgo NG ayos (KALINGA) Program. SVD volunteers are looking after the basic needs of those who are taking shelter at the Sports Center."
