It goes without saying that it takes a special kind of skill to excel in school and work at the same time. But it’s not completely impossible—at least according to Kristel Calatin.
This 20-year-old college student somehow manages to be a consistent honor student at Saint Michael’s College of Laguna despite having to run her own thrift store. The funny thing is, she never even planned to be a student entrepreneur in the first place. The Psychology major only got curious about thrifting clothes when she borrowed her sister’s iPad and spotted clothes for sale on her Instagram account. A self-confessed fan of dress-up games, Kristel decided to post photos of her own pieces “just for fun.”
When Kristel realized that people were genuinely interested in buying her items, she got some tips from her sister and established Buy Wear Slay as an official Instagram business. Now with over 11,000 followers online, Kristel is planning to expand her physical store. In fact, her business is so stable that she can actually provide for her family and pay for her own tuition.
Her secret? Proper time management and *a whole lot* of patience! Kristel acknowledges that even though the industry is full of bogus buyers and unpredictable trends, it’s critical to endure these challenges to attain success.
