Try This Class Kung Gusto Mong Maging Mas Spontaneous + Confident
In the latest episode of Candy Hangout, Candy Rookies Sam Samarita and Miguel Venegas meet Aryn Cristobal and Jan Angelo of Third World Improv, as we debunk some misconceptions about improv and prove that anyone, no matter what skills or career aspiratons they have, can benefit from its lessons.
Thinking of ways to cope in quarantine can sometimes feel exhausting, and it's okay to admit that there are days when a Netflix binge just won't cut it. If that feeling of restlessness has been hitting you different lately, we suggest trying something totally new that could spark (or jolt) some joy back into your life.
If you haven't felt as confident or particularly sociable lately, try signing up for a class with Third World Improv. The pros? You don't need any experience or background to join, and what you learn from the class can not only help in skills-building, but in everyday situations.
Third World Improv is the first school in the Philippines dedicated to teaching improvisational theater. It was set up in 2015 by Gabe Mercado and the members of the pioneering improv group SPIT. But don't let that intimidate you, their classes are for all levels, and it's not just for people who want to perform. Improv can benefit anyone who wants to build their confidence or learn to express themselves better. (It can even just be a simple date night activity if you want to try it with bae.)
"With constant practice--kaya kami nagre-rehearse every week--mas made-develop niyo yung quick thinking... listening is very important, so mas makikinig ka sa sinasabi ng tao. Because that's what you're going to use to come up with material," SPIT member and Third World Improv facilitator Aryn Cristobal says. Workshop facilitator Jan Angelo also stresses that anyone from any walk of life can come in, do improv, "and be great at it."
