The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) recently released a department order stating that anyone who's 18 years old and above and has more than 5,000 followers on social media can now be accredited as an interim social media practitioner.

This is to be more inclusive in terms of generating news and information regarding the President's official activities and events, and not limiting it to mainstream media. This means that anyone who qualifies for this position can be granted a per event/activity accreditation (unless otherwise specified).

In an interview with Aksyon TV - Punto Asintado posted on PCOO's website, Secretary Martin Andanar clarified that the post is temporary and that there are more requirements needed for the post, such as:

"Kailangan mayroon kang constant, mayroon kang consistent na content creation na may kinalaman sa news at may kinalaman sa current affairs na nilalagay mo sa iyong blog o sa iyong social media account."

As for concerns with the media ethics, Sec. Andanar said, "Alam mo, iyon ang debate eh. Kasi iyong unang version nito, itong social media policy, nandoon lahat iyong international standards, everything. Pero as you may understand, the social media policy is under the office of Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson. So iba rin iyong kanilang pananaw. So that's why it's interim because it's not final and we are accepting more suggestions from different bloggers and social media practitioners and, of course, from the mainstream media."
