If there's one thing that's been made clear by anime enthusiasts, it's that anime is more than just a hobby. Dedicated superfans can even use their expertise in anime to earn a living. On a similar note, those who want to devote their academic life to anime can finally do more than join related organizations or fan clubs in school. Anime lovers can now officially take it up as a major and learn more about the process of anime creation on a more extensive level.
A university in Japan just officially opened a department dedicated to nothing but anime. Kaishi Professional University put up an anime and manga department. And get this: It's actually officially approved by Japan's Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, as per Crunchyroll.
The university's manga and anime department is set to launch in April 2021. So far, up to 80 students will be able to closely learn from and be mentored by top anime and manga creators, animators, researchers, artists, and game creators under the program.Â
Kaishi Professional University, which only opened in 2020, is located in Niigata, Japan. Entrance examinations for the anime and manga department are slated to begin in December 2020.Â
