Which Academic Strand to Take in SHS, Based on Your Ideal College Course

In 2013, the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 was signed into law, which resulted in the implementation of the new K-12 Curriculum, where high school students will have to take an additional two years to graduate from senior high school.Â
Through this, high school students are given an option to pursue one of four tracks: Academic, Technical-Vocational-Livelihood, Sports, and Arts and Design. Students who wish to pursue higher education may opt to take the Academic track, and may further choose from three specific strands: Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), and Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM).
Each strand is composed of related fields that can help prepare students for learning in college, depending on the course they wish to take in the future.
