This is it. You've just confessed all the feelings that have been bundling up. But then, he says he doesn't feel the same way. People in the next room could practically hear the sound of your heart breaking. This is it. You've just exited the building from the audition of a lifetime. You're on an unbelievable high, thinking you've nailed it. 2 weeks later, the much-awaited envelope from the school of your dreams in your hands. For the first time in your life, you feel like everything is falling into place. Unfortunately, when you open the envelope, it says that you have been rejected. Nothing in your life makes sense anymore.

Rejection sucks. There's no other way to put it. It's absolutely horrible and takes a real toll on your emotions. It's one of the hardest feelings to get over with. So consider this as your cheat sheet for getting over that boy, that school, that audition, and whatever forms of rejection you're faced with, now and in the future. Here are the 5 steps you need to take once rejection kicks you in the gut.

 1  Calm down.

Take a deep breath and calm down. Panicking won't do you any good. You can't change what has already happened. And believe me, it's not the end of the world even if it surely feels like it. Your life isn't over. There's a reason why you were rejected. Maybe, now isn't the right time. Or you're meant for other things–things that you're more suited for, things that could make you even happier. Remember that this too will pass, just like all the happiness and all other emotions you've felt before. Sit down and relax. Your emotions are at a dangerous level right now. You don't want to do anything that will hurt you even more. Be careful not to be spiteful towards those around you. You might push away the people who actually matter.

 2  Feel the pain.

Cry. Let all your emotions out. Cry till you can't breathe. Scream until you lose your voice (preferably to no one in particular). Write that cheesy poem. Have Sam Smith on repeat. It's okay. You're allowed to be sad. You're allowed to be angry. But please remember that this is only for a little while. Most people get stuck here. They get swallowed up by their emotions and can't get back up. Mourn your loss but know that you still need to put all your broken pieces back together soon.

 3  Distract yourself.

The best way to get over the pain is to distract yourself. Keep yourself busy with something worthwhile. Do all that procrastinated schoolwork. Hang out with your best friends who bring out the best in you. Go after that internship you've always wanted. Start a hobby. Volunteer for a charity that tugs at your heart strings. The people who get depressed are usually those who only think of themselves. Other people have worse problems. Give back to others. Believe me. It helps yourself and others too! Listen to happy, inspirational, and motivational music. Don't let yourself be caught wallowing in sadness OVER what happened. You're not yet healed but when you catch yourself thinking about the rejection and it doesn't hurt anymore, proceed to step 4.

 4  Reflect.

You were rejected for a reason. Look back and think why it wasn't a good fit for you to begin with. Think about what you can do to improve yourself. This experience serves as a very important lesson. It's extremely painful to get hurt but everyone has to feel pain once in awhile. People need to know what it feels like to get hurt. Why? Well it toughens you up. You can't be a fragile porcelain doll who could break at any strike against it. I'm sorry to break it to you but this won't be the last time you'll get rejected. You will encounter countless rejections. This is why you need to be like a strong bridge. Why? Well a bridge is able to withstand storm after storm without collapsing. It aids other people to cross over their problems as well. Each rejection, loss, or failure brings you closer to your goal. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.

 5  Begin again.

Once you've learned the lesson from the experience and you're a better version of yourself, it's time to start anew. If you got rejected for that job downtown, why not try again when there's another opening? There's no harm to it. The employers will see the amount of tenacity you have for the job. Set your heart again a new boy. If you still want that university or course, study and get good grades so you can transfer. Life is always about taking risks. You'll never know how amazing it can be until you keep trying
in spite of failures.  You'll never find out what's right for you if you don't push on. So go out explore, get
your heart broken, pick yourself up again, and find what fits right for you! Rejection and failures are key
ingredients to achieving greatness.  Successful people know this by heart. To one day achieve perpetual
awesomeness one must feel defeat first. Only then, can people realize the true value of succeeding.
