If you're one of those people who start off an introduction by saying, "I'm awkward," or have "Awkward since birth" for an IG bio, chances are, you have experienced being in at least one of these situations. Read on to see if you can relate.

  1. When you see an acquaintance from afar, you pretend to text, read, do something—anything!—or act like you didn't see her.

Because it's way better (and easier) than having to process thoughts like, "what if she doesn't smile back?" or "what if she doesn't remember me anymore? I'll look like a fool!" in a matter of seconds before deciding what to do.

The next time this happens: Just smile at the other person even if the chances of her mirroring your gesture are slim. It won't hurt anyone (okay, maybe your ego for a quick second, but you'll do fine).

  1. When you say something and the other person in the group says something else, and everyone decides to pay attention to her instead...and you don't know what to do with yourself anymore.

You'll feel weird not finishing what you said, and even weirder if you keep blabbing on while no one is listening.

The next time this happens: Don't make a big deal out of it. It happens even to the most confident people.

  1. When your friend leaves you alone to pee, get drinks, or say hi to another friend at a party, you start to become uneasy.

So you just sit there, pretend to be enjoying yourself, and hope that no one attempts to have a converasation with you.

The next time this happens: At least be ready for a smile, compliment, or small talk, so that when someone approaches you, you won't be racking up your brain for something to say.

  1. When you act cool, but end up feeling like you're trying too hard.

"You look beautiful today. Not that you don't look beautiful on other days. Because you do…I actually saw you the other day wearing a nice outfit. Not that I was stalking you. I don't do that IRL. Just on Instagram. But not too often. Just when I have time, which is mostly every single day."

The next time this happens: Don't overthink it. If ever you say something silly, apologize if need be, correct it, and move on.

  1. When you're with a new group and you're really quiet that they keep asking you if you're okay.

And when you do finally say something, they'll make a big deal out of it. Not helping, you guys!

The next time this happens: Just explain that it takes you a bit of time to warm up to other people. It's totally normal—they'll understand!
