14 Things You Should Never Say to a Girl Who's Never Been on a Date

No, I didn't have plans on Valentine's Day. So what?

So you've never been on a date. Ever. NBD. It's not the end of the world. It happens. You know that, we know that. But sometimes, there are just people who exist in this world determined to make you feel bad that, well, you've never been on a date. Like it's worst thing ever to happen to a person. (In case it wasn't clear enough, it's not!) If you've been in this situation, you're all too familiar with these lines.

  1. "Are your parents, like, super strict?" Granted I still need to ask permission from my parents before even considering going out with a guy, I hardly think that my dating life would be dependent on them.

  2. "Maybe you need to put some makeup on." Physical attraction is a factor in dating, I know, but what if I'm not a fan of red lipstick? Does that automatically mean I can't date?

  3. "You're lucky you don't have boy problems!" I might not have dated, but I've already had crushes, sometimes unrequited, and that counts as boy problems for me!

  4. "You're probably too picky." And that's a bad thing? What if I have different standards than yours? I don't judge you for your choices, so don't judge mine.

  5. "You're always welcome to third wheel!" While I appreciate that you let me tag along on your and your bae's date, there's really no need to rub it in that I'm an "extra" to your couple outing. Can't we just say I'm hanging out with you guys?

  6. "The moment you stop looking, he'll arrive!" Don't even go there.

  7. "I'll introduce you to [insert name of random guy friend here]. You'll hit it off!" At least ask me first if I'm even interested in a setup? Don't just assume I'm game!

  8. "Why?" Like why don't I date? Why haven't I been asked out? I don't know the answer to your question!

  9. "Don't you get lonely?" So you're in a great relationship or you're having fun dating, don't assume that everyone's definition of happiness is the same as yours. What if I'm happy with being on my own? I can change my mind in the future—maybe when I meet someone I care enough for—but right now, I just prefer to be single. Is that so hard to believe?

  10. "Maybe you're sending out the wrong signals." Or maybe I'm just not getting asked by the right person. Have you ever thought of that?

  11. "Why don't you try asking out someone?" What if I don't want to? Or what if I'm just taking my time. Don't pressure me!

  12. "Aww, ako nalang date mo." I'd much rather you ask me to hang out with you rather than make it seem like a pity invite. How would you feel if I did that to you?

  13. "Why don't you try a dating app?" Maybe I have? And what if I haven't? Let me be the one to decide how I'll meet the person I'll go on my very first date with.

  14. "So you didn't have any plans for Valentine's Day?" Actually, I did. Treated myself to a movie marathon with my friends and took my parents out. Who says couples only have the right to celebrate hearts day, anyway?

There's absolutely nothing wrong if you haven't gone on a date yet. You will on your own terms, when the time is right, and when you meet the right person. Don't ever feel pressured into diving into dating just because other people are making you feel bad that you don't have a love life. It's absolutely fine!
