10 Dates You Should Go On—With Yourself!
1 The Cinematic Walk Around Town
Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke walked all over Europe. The folks at That Thing Called Tadhana traipsed from Italy all the way to the mountains of Sagada. There's no reason why you can't see the sights on your own. Pound the pavement in an unexplored part of your neighborhood, bring your camera, and walk out those deep, dark thoughts 'til you come to your own light bulb, life-changing epiphany.
2 The Must Love Dogs (or Other Animals) Moment
Most people can't resist a nice long hour at the pet shop, taking a peak at the adorable furry friends just begging to be held. Go to PAWS for an afternoon, visit a nearby zoo or animal sanctuary, or volunteer at your friendly neighborhood vet clinic to feel that unconditional pet love (and maybe take home someone to love too).
3 The Mind Opener Museum Date
If your interest is peaked by someone with a penchant for historical facts or scientific knowhow, a day at the museum isn't a bad idea at all. Spend an evening exploring the dioramas at The Ayala Museum, ogle at the sea creatures of Manila Ocean Park, or roam the halls of the Mind Museum. The best part of going on your own? You can stay as long as you want at the exhibitions that interest you.
4 The Throwback Trip
Nostalgia always has a certain romance to it. Take yourself back in time through a walking tour of the walled city of Intramuros, or walk down the historical pews of San Agustin Church and the Manila Cathedral. If you're into old time romance novels or shows like Downton Abbey or Reign, this may be right up your alley.
5 The Heartbeat Raiser
There's nothing quite like the rush of endorphins and that tummy-tingling feeling a date with someone you're into brings. And there's no reason you can't have that same feeling on date with yourself. Take a swing at a trapeze lesson or a dance-oriented pole class to get that rush of blood to the head and heart.
6 The Childhood Memories Stirrer
It's always so cute when your date shows you around the neighborhood he grew up in, or lets you in on the toys he used to play silly games with as a kid. Take yourself down memory lane by visiting the Museo Pambata, going on a foodie date with your favorite treats (birthday spaghetti and hotdogs on sticks, anyone?), or buying yourself a balloon bouquet just because.
7 The Foodie Tour
Dinner for two sounds romantical, but dinner for one where self-consciousness flies out of the window definitely has its perks. Save up for a special meal for you and you alone at a café with an al fresco table, join a Chinatown food tour and discover the secret local goodies, or visit a restaurant you've always been too intimidated to try and go for it.
8 The Dance Like No One's Watching Date
Make like Mark Ruffalo and Kiera Knightley in Begin Again, and bring the earphones on at your org's summer party and dance the night away without a care in the world. Close your eyes, revel to a playlist of your own making, and party with a crowd but be totally intimate with your own awesomeness on the dance floor.
9 The Arty, Amorous Affair
If you can't find a perfect partner to share in your love of all things artsy and craftsy, there's no reason you can't take yourself out on a trip. Join a watercolor weekend workshop, visit the Pinto Gallery, or sharpen your painting skills at Sip & Gogh. The best part? You'll have a souvenir to bring home with you.
10 The Spontaneous Shellshocker
Sometimes, the best dates happen when you make absolutely no plans. Schedule a whol evening just for you and see what happens. Maybe you'll feel like throwing yourself a Lush bath bomb party in the comfort of your own home (who doesn't love to be pampered?), or maybe you'll have an instant craving for some delivery to watch with a full-on Pretty Little Liars marathon. Maybe you'll want to take yourself for a run outside and just feel free. Give yourself space to experience whatever it is you want and fall in love with your spontaneous self.
