Rei Germar Believes That You Should Never Dress to Please Your Boyfriend

You should always put yourself first.

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and if you’re out shopping for the perfect date night outfit to surprise your S.O., you might want to rethink why you’re adding that red bodycon dress or sky-high stilettos to your cart.

At the launch of Plains and Prints’ Spring Harvest summer collection, vlogger and influencer Rei Germar talked about being a fashion girl at heart, and how living life in front of the camera has made her welcome new trends rather than being intimidated by them. As the brand’s digital collaborator for their latest collection—which featured a romantic original print filled with exotic flora and color-blocked coordinates in rich earthy tones—one of the topics Rei talked about during the event was how she found her personal style.

“I’m a comfort over fashion kind of girl. I’m not going to go out of the house wearing something not comfortable. It’s going to affect your mood,” Rei shares and tells a story of the time she asked her boyfriend to pick out her outfit. “He styled a nice set of clothes for me. It was really nice—super duper nice—but when I wore it, I wasn’t comfortable. It affected my mood and the way I would carry myself. So that instance taught me that no matter what you choose to wear, you need to feel comfortable.”

But don’t get Rei wrong, comfort doesn’t necessarily mean wearing something drab or too casual on the verge of looking like it's your pambahay. The vlogger simply emphasized that it’s always best to dress for yourself.

“I always make sure to put a personal touch in every [trend] that I try. And that I express myself through the way that I dress,” Rei adds. Fashion is definitely not just about wearing clothes but is a form of self-expression. Celebrity stylist turned designer Rachel Zoe once said, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” And she couldn’t have worded it any better.

Though there’s nothing wrong about choosing to wear a certain dress style or heels if it tickles your significant other's fancy, but remember to wear it because YOU want to and not for anyone else. After all, dressing up is about loving yourself, too.
