How to Shop Smarter During Sale Season
Nothing compares to the rush of sale season. Its euphoria can only be matched by the feeling of waking up on Christmas day or receiving the long awaited balikbayan box from your family abroad. It's consumerism's gift to mankind, a day when one can suddenly afford to buy clothes when one couldn't on any other day of the year. Because we know how important sales are to shopaholics and/or broke girls alike, here is a definitive guide on how to shop smarter during sale season. You're welcome.
Know when the sales are.
Generally, there are two big sale seasons throughout the year namely the Mid-Season sale (around June to August) and the End-of-Season sale (around December to early February). Stores can put items up for sale sporadically throughout the year, but the best time to hit the malls is when everything is 70% off. Extra tip? Go during the start of the sale season when most everything comes in all sizes and again during the end of it when prices are at its lowest.
Bring a bottle of water with you.
It’s no surprise that it gets tiring walking around the mall—especially during the sale season when everything and everyone is on the rush. So do yourself a favor and bring yourself a bottle of water so you can refresh yourself anytime, anywhere!
Wear clothes that are easy take on and off.
Nothing is more inconvenient than removing strappy gladiator sandals or unzipping the back of a top you can't even see and then doing this again five or ten more times throughout the day. When you know you're going to spend the day shopping, wear something you can slip on and off as quickly as possible. No fuss, no muss.
Reservations are your best friend.
Pro tip: if you like something, don’t buy it right away. Reserve it first. Most, if not all, stores allow you to reserve an item of clothing at least until the end of the day. This way you can go about your shopping looking for something you like better while knowing that your new finds are waiting for you at the end of the day—that is, if you still want it.
Know when to buy something.
Just because you like something doesn't mean that you should buy it. General rule when buying something new? If you really need it like a graduation dress or a corpo outfit, buy it. If you leave the store and absolutely cannot stop thinking about it and all the OOTDs you can put together with the piece, go back and but it. Otherwise, leave it for someone else to find and love.
Wear the right underwear to match your clothes.
When going shopping, it's best to wear a strapless bra and your best pair of skin tone undies. You don't have to, but it's definitely easier to try on clothes without imagining what it would look like without those pesky bra straps or neon-colored panties peeking out from your white shorts.
