If 2016 was the year of white shoes and pristine sneakers, then could 2017 mean the opposite? Let’s face it, accidentally dirtying up your shoes is frustrating and inconvenient, but at the same time, inevitable. So far this year, three major fashion brands have chosen to rock the "dirty sneakers" look. Check it out and tell us, would you pay money to buy sneakers that are supposed to be dirty?
Probably one of the most sought after brands this year, with its signature embroidered sneakers and street-style savvy T-shirts, Gucci launched their Resort 2018 collection last week in Florence, Italy. And guess what was spotted on the runway? Yup, dirty sneakers.
One of the most well-known sneaker brands, Reebok, has recently gotten together with up-and-coming fashion design label, Vetements. Their new collaboration features sneakers that are purposefully dusty and dirty, looking as if it's been on the streets for a few weeks rather than straight out from the store.
Another pair of Vetements x Reebok shoes features sneakers that have scribbles all over them, kind of like how your Chuck Taylors used to look like when you were in grade 6.
For Balenciaga's Fall 2017 men's collection, one of the outfits featured grime-tinted sneakers with striped laces. And while it does look fashionable in its own way, we're starting to wonder if mom would actually let us spend money on shoes like these.
Although we have yet to see this trend in most retail, ready-to-wear stores, it seems obvious that "dirty sneakers" are now officially a thing, whether you like it or not. Dirty is the new white it seems?
