The 22-year-old singer-turned-actress, who will play the iconic mermaid Ariel in the 2023 live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, took our breath away as she made her ethereal appearance at the 95th Academy Awards. Swathed in the dreamiest seafoam green frock, Halle looked as if she stepped out of a story book, proving that she's the perfect choice to play the Disney princess.Â
"So loving it," Halle tells host Laverne Cox during a red carpet interview, confirming that she was indeed inspired by her upcoming role in The Little Mermaid for her Oscars look. "I was really excited to wear this beautiful dress to go into the fairytale world and give them a princess for one day."

We have to say, mission accomplished! Halle successfully channeled Ariel in her frothy sheer aqua-hued gown by the Italian luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana. The dainty strapless floor-length number boasts of a structured corset and cascades into a voluminous skirt, all rendered in soft, romantic tulle that's truly fit for a princess. Adding a much-needed sparkle to her red carpet look was a simple yet elegant diamond necklace that highlighted her clavicles, plus a pair of princess-cut diamond stud earrings for a sophisticated finishing touch.
As for the beauty department, Halle kept things minimal yet chic, opting for a warm, monochromatic glam that merely highlighted her naturally glowing skin. She took a more playful take on braids for her modern updo, though, which she pulled off effortlessly!

As expected, Halle's comment section was flooded with awe and support, as her friends and fans alike pointed out the obvious: She definitely looks like a real-life princess! "My Ariel! My gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous Ariel," wrote Halle's sister Chloe Bailey, who's one-half of R&B duo Chloe x Halle.

Halle is one of the first women of color to play a traditionally white Disney princess—a historical casting that's a win in representation! "Words can’t describe how immensely honored I feel to play the mermaid of my dreams, Ariel in Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Come under the sea with me," announced on Instagram. The movie is set to hit the theaters on May 26, 2023.
What a magical moment, Halle! Now we really can't wait to watch The Little Mermaid.
