Materials:
  • Pair of shoes (skimmers)
  • Zippers
  • Acrylic paint
  • Brush
  • Scissors
  • Fabric glue
Step 1: Clean your shoes to ensure that the paint and glue will adhere well to the fabric. You can also get rid of embellishments you don't like.

Step 2: Cut the zippers and glue the ends to the shoe. Start with the side first. You can play around with the positioning and the length of the zipper, too. For this project, the zipper was placed diagonally. You can also try putting the straps across to end up with a Mary Jane effect.

Step 3: Cut the end of the zipper diagonally and glue this to the front area of the shoe.

Step 4: Using acrylic paint, you can add more design elements to your shoe. You can paint freestyle, or if you're worried about messing things up, you can opt to draw a pattern with a pencil first.

*Aside from paint, you can also use permanent markers.

With a little creativity, you can reinvent your old shoes! Don't be afraid to experiment with other materials as well. You'll surely have an interesting time coming up with great designs that will suit your personality.
