Madonna’s 13-year-old daughter, Lourdes Leon (aka Lola) has just launched her own clothing line called Material Girl for Macy’s. She's also blogging to promote her line that is 80s-inspired and has distinct pieces that will make any school girl, or even the young at heart, stand out from the crowd. On the day of the launch, shoppers were given a “Material Girl” treatment letting them walk a pink carpet, eat cupcakes with sprinkles, and jam to some of Madonna’s greatest hits.
Lola shares in her blog that she can’t wait to turn 14 in October so she can finally dye her hair. Her favorite color is black and her least fave color is brown, because she thinks "it resembles the color of something quite gross."
Lola’s clothing line reflects her taste in fashion. She says, "I am totally obsessivo about 80’s (sic) shorts... You know the kind that makes your butt look kinda big, with a grunge-looking shirt tucked in. It’s kinda nerdy but I love it... I’m still in love with brogues or as some people call them ‘oxford shoes’. " Her own mother thinks that Lola is much more fashion-forward and savvy than she is at this point.
Gossip Girl's Taylor Momsen was chosen to be the face of Material Girl. Her grungy and tough-girl look fits the label very well. Momsen, who is also the frontwoman for Pretty Reckless, was personally picked by Madonna because of her passion for music and keen fashion sense. The mother and daughter tandem were present at the photo shoot and were hands on in styling Taylor for the ad campaign.
