Building the perfect wardrobe may be difficult, it may be challenging, and it's definitely not easy, but it's totally possible. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you build the wardrobe you love—whatever your budget!

Be selective.

Don't just buy anything you think you want or you just might regret it. Being selective can save you time, space, money, and even the environment since smart consumerism reduces waste. Remember, you should love each and every piece in your wardrobe, not have a stash of old new clothes in the back of your closet with the tags still on them.

Have a good foundation.

Just like a good house, your wardrobe needs to have a good foundation. What does that mean? Basics. Tops that come in one color only, a pair of really flattering jeans, a navy blue blazer. It gets easier to mix and match when everything you mix can go with everything you match it with.

Mix styles.

While basics are great, don't forget to buy fun things you really like, too, like printed pants or a strappy cami. Your wardrobe should be a balance of basic clothes and trend-driven pieces that define your style. Besides, these pieces are what will go great with your basics!

Invest in quality.

Fast fashion is sometimes just not worth it. It's responsible for a fraction of global pollution and most fast fashion companies profit off of abusive labor practices. When you go shopping, buy clothes that you know will last, not clothes at bargain prices, but you know will tear after a few washes. When buying clothes, check the stitching, the material, and embellishments, if any. It doesn't take a trained eye to see whether or not a top or a skirt looks like it's about to fall apart.

Alterations are a gift.

Don't be afraid or intimidated to get things altered if you don't like the way it fits on you. If you don't have a trusted seamstress, go to legit alterations stores to avoid being cheated on.

Comfort is key.

Comfort is always key! When choosing clothes, remember that being comfortable outweighs being fashionable so if something itches or is too tight, don't buy it. It may be super cute but tha trendy top useless if you don't even want to wear it out.

Know where you are.

Your environment is always the main factor in  choosing which clothes you buy. Unless you live outside the country or travel really frequently, refrain from buying clothes that are too thick or jackets you think are really cute but can't really wear. It'll save you space and waste!
