Have you guys seen those "Tomboy x Girly Girl Challenge” photos circulating around the internet lately? It's basically a photo challenge where girls dress up in their most boyish and girliest outfits for the world to see. We definitely think it's a fun feat to do, but how exactly do you put together an edgy outfit that will still let your girl power shine through?
If you think adding a bit of guy style to your #OOTD is difficult, think again. Here are just a few things you need to keep in mind when injecting a boost of boy charm in your wardrobe:
1. Comfort is key.
Our guy BFFs attest to this one fashion rule: dress for comfort. It's one of the reasons they love wearing baggy clothes and sneakers all the time. Give your white tiny tee a rest, and slip into pullover tunics or loose sweaters. They go perfectly well with denim cut offs and will let you move comfortably through out the day. Alternatively, you can throw on a hoodie over a tank top.
2. Just roll with the rips.
You've probably wondered why your brother hates shopping so much. Most guys shop and dress with function in mind, so when they buy clothes, they usually wear it until they just can't anymore. Dirty, rugged sneakers aren't bad at all! They're interesting pieces to add to a cute, all-white ensemble. Shredded jeans are also super easy to DIY. Just hunt for a pair of old guy jeans from your neighborhood ukay-ukay, bleach them, and rip it in places with scissors. Pair it with a varsity crew shirt, and you're good to go!
3. A little goes a long way.
Like most things in fashion, mastering the art of balance is a must for a boyish street style look. Piling on the baggy clothes would just make you look like a mess (plus it's super uncomfortable too!), so pick just one item to highlight in your #OOTD. For example, you can wear a cool snapback with a one-sided braid for some girly spunk. Keep the rest of your outfit simple with a plain tee and a pair of black jeans.
4. Keep things playful with colors.
No, guy fashion doesn't have to be restricted to blacks, whites, grays, and browns. In fact, most guys would argue that colorful outfits work just as well on them, as they would on girls! Go for a denim vest or jacket with paint splatters or substitute your sneakers' plain white laces with neon pink shoelaces.
5. Be creative, and just have fun with it!
The most important things you need to remember when switching up your wardrobe for something more boyish are to stretch the limits of your imagination when it comes to your style and to make sure you're having fun while doing it. Go ahead, and release your creative juices when it comes to your style upgrades. Be bold, and show everyone how awesome you are! Need extra inspiration?
