From Our Readers: This Is What Really Defines You
When the curtains begin to close and a deafening silence fills the room instead of the applause you expected, when the task that you've been losing sleep over didn't turn out the way you wanted it to, and when the paper you wrote with all your heart got crumpled and thrown into the trash, don't think that these things define you.
When you look in the mirror and see all the tears you've shed, all the scars that people have left, and even the ones that you've made yourself, don't think that these things define you.
When your bare feet run as fast as they could while the thundering storm tries to drown you as you beg for someone not to go but they still leave you, don't think that this defines you.
No matter how many mistakes you've committed, how many failures you've experienced, or how many heartbreaks you've been through, these are not the true measure of you as a person.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Rather, what defines you is how you accept all these things and how you're able to stand up after each and every one of them.
What defines you is how you perform better the next time to hear that applause, how you improve on accomplishing your task, and how you put the tip of your pen on paper and decide to write again.
What defines you is how you look in the mirror and see all your scars, but still see yourself as beautiful and you are able to smile again.
What really defines you is how you are able to dance gracefully in the rain even if there's no one there to hold your hand.
Because sometimes, all we need is our own, brave selves to help us get through the storm.
