When it comes to beauty, there's no doubt that Korean and American trends couldn't be any more different. K-beauty is into natural, fresh looks while US beauty prefers everything bold—from strong cheekbones to dark lips—and the same can be said when it comes to their skin care routine.
One of the biggest beauty breakthroughs in the West is retinol. Almost all the beauty girls in the West swear by this ingredient that promises to turn back the time and even prevent wrinkles and fine lines from happening in the first place. But in a recent interview with Byrdie, Korean skin care expert Alicia Yoon spills that she's actually not a fan of America's go-to skin care ingredient! Say what?!
"I never use retinol," Alicia shared. According to the founder of Peach & Lily, retinol thickens the skin and will leave you a step behind in achieving every Korean girl's beauty goal—"translucent 'glass' skin."
Although every beauty girl would save up and splurge on a miracle product that promises to ensure great skin like retinol for Alicia, consistency is key to achieve great skin. "[Anti-aging needs] a more holistic approach to skin care (and nutrition and lifestyle)." While we could all use a miracle product once in a while, we do have to agree with Alicia that when it comes to scoring healthy, glowing skin discipline and consistency are definitely important.
How about you? Would you use retinol in your skin care routine?
