I have dark lips—what can I do to lighten them?

If you were born with dark lips, this means that you have a high melanin count in your kisser and lightening solutions may not help in decreasing your natural shade. If this is the case, some concealer and lipstick can help you out. Dot your lips with a small amount of concealer (one shade lighter than your natural skin tone) and blend with your finger. This helps lighten your lip color and acts as your base upon which to apply your choice of lipstick or lipgloss. If your lips have darkened, dermatologists say the culprit might be the dyes, beeswax, or perfume in your lipstick, so be aware of the stuff that you swipe on your mouth by reading the lipstick labels. Wearing a lip balm with sunscreen also helps protect your lips from getting dark.
