Day And Night Skin Care Mistakes You're Guilty Of
Every girl has a beauty routine that she totally swears by, whether that's the traditional cleanse-tone-moisturize skin regimen, or the trendy Korean skin care routine. Apart from sticking to your go-to skincare habit, watch out for these tiny slip-ups that may be sabotaging your journey to a picture perfect skin from day to night.
NIGHT: Shutting your peepers with makeup on
While forgetting to remove your makeup for one night can be forgiven, it simply cannot be a habit. Sleeping with your makeup on can be tempting after a long day, but this could lead to clogged pores and oil glands, and causes your skin to age prematurely. Yikes!
Nivea Gentle Cleansing Wipes
Solution: Keep a tub of makeup wipes on your bedside table for a quick cleanse after a long day before dozing off.
DAY: Over cleansing
Assuming you followed the cardinal rule of never ever sleeping with your makeup on, save some time during the day and skip the morning cleanse. While the evening cleanse helps remove excess dirt and oil, during your sleep the skin produces oils that are hydrating and balancing which is good for your skin. Over cleansing can strip off these natural oils and can dry your skin out.
The Face Shop Clean Face Mild Toner
Solution: Wash your face with water and if you must, use a mild toner afterwards
NIGHT: Tugging on the under eye area too harshly
Playing with eye makeup is always fun, but carelessly removing it at night by rubbing and tugging can result to puffy eyes, wrinkling, and sagging.
Bifesta Eye Makeup Remover
Solution: Show your peepers some TLC by taking some time to be extra gentle with it. Pour some water-based makeup remover on a dry cotton ball, and leave it on your eye for thirty seconds before gently wiping your eye makeup away.
DAY: Splashing on hot water
It's extremely tempting to splash your face with hot water to slowly ease yourself for the day, but it can be problematic for your skin. Hot water can dehydrate your skin which isn't exactly how you would want to start your day.
Solution: There is no need to splash your face with extremely cold water. Instead opt for lukewarm water for better rinsing.
NIGHT: Loading up on skin care products
There is a common misconception that at night is the perfect time for one to slather up on skin care products. But too much of everything can be harmful for your skin, too. The more products you add on the less effective it will be.
Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate
Solution: After your cleansing routine, use a facial serum at night when your skin is most receptive for healthier and fresher looking skin upon waking up.
DAY: Moisturizing your face alone
When it comes to taking care of one's skin one tends to focus on the face alone, and forget about the rest. But the neck is one of the most sensitive parts of the body, and is often the most neglected one as well.
Etude House Pure Water Baobab
Solution: Don't forget to lather up on the moisturizer from your face down to your neck area to keep your skin glowing for the years to come.
NIGHT: Putting on eye cream
The skin around the eye area is a lot thinner so when you apply eye cream before sleeping you'll tend to wake up with a puffy set of eyes.
The Face Shop Mango Seed Silk Moisturizing Eye Cream
Solution: Applying eye cream during the day should do the trick of correcting dark circles under your eyes and preventing wrinkles.
DAY: Relying on SPF infused makeup alone
Whether it's the summer season, or the rainy season your BB cream which boasts of SPF protection is definitely not good enough to protect your skin from the blazing rays of the sun.
Nivea Protect and Moisture Sunscreen Lotion SPF50+
Solution: Apply a teaspoon amount of sunscreen to your face, your neck, your chest, and the top of your hands daily for enough sun protection.
NIGHT: Sleeping on cotton pillowcases
Constantly pressing your face against your pillowcase can cause trauma to your skin, and this is further aggravated by the friction against your cotton pillowcases.
Solution: Switch to silk pillowcases instead! Smooth silk minimizes friction which minimizes creases on your face, too. Plus silk pillowcases are also better for your hair. #DoubleYay
