My lifelong dream has always been to become a model. I look up to Raya Mananquil, Ornussa Cadness, Bianca Gonzalez, and Isabel Roces. I admire seeing them strut their stuff and sashay on the runway. I think they are just some of the most beautiful women in the world. Whenever I look at them on the pages of magazines, I always say to myself, “Someday, I would be like them. I would become a model.”

A chubby girl dreams of becoming a model
I am not like other girls who enjoy the benefit of having perfect bodies and make people’s heads turn every time they walk in the halls of their respective schools. I stand 5 feet and 3 inches and my weight yoyos between 115 to 120 lbs. I remember having one of my guy friends making a bet with me and told me that if ever I lost 10 pounds in a matter of 2 months, he would give me a prize. I told him, “You'll see when I'm already a model, I won't even pay attention to you!” He just laughed at me. Maybe he thought that it'll never happen. Maybe he thought it was not for me.

Oh well, I tried to go for his bet with me and tried to lose weight. I went through different kinds of diets; I even reached the point wherein I did not eat anything but grapefruit. I engaged in a lot of crash diets in the past and as a result, I got sick. But no matter what I did, even if I lost 3 pounds or so, my weight would still manage to climb up back to 120 pounds again. Because of that, I decided to forget my dream of gracing the pages of magazines. I decided to accept the fact that being a model is just not for me.
