It's debatable whether there is really one right way of applying makeup. After all, every girl has her own go-to makeup routine that works wonders for her. Sometimes you may even have to switch up some steps in your makeup routine depending on what beauty look you're going for, or what problem you're trying to conceal. But if you must have a guide, we asked professional makeup artist Nikki Tiu to give us the lowdown on the right order of applying makeup goodies.
Q: What is the right order of applying makeup?
Nikki: While there is no one way of applying makeup, here are the necessary steps to create a basic beauty look.
- Primer. Choose a primer that specifically matches the needs of your skin whether it's for oil-control, brightening, anti-aging, hydrating, etc..
- Foundation. To create a clean canvas, start by applying a thin layer of foundation on your face and your neck. Do add more foundation on areas that needs extra coverage.
- Concealer. If foundation just won't cut it, use your favorite concealer to hide blemishes and pimples.
- Brows and eye makeup. Before setting your makeup, proceed with your brows and eye makeup first to easily clear up possible smudges after your eye makeup application.
- Set with powder.
- Blush. Use a powder blush to add color to your cheeks. If you're using a cream blush, then apply it to the apples of your cheeks first before setting your look with powder.
- Lipstick. End the look with a swipe of your favorite lippie.
Note: Steps 6 and 7 can be interchanged depending on how you choose your makeup colors. Some girls can pick a nice blush color after applying lipstice and vice versa.
