These days, why you're getting zits during the most random times isn't a mystery anymore, but for most girls, where they're getting unwanted pimples still is. It's important to know that different zit locations have different meanings, too. So to help us decode your zit map, we asked dermatologist Dr. Rhoda Espino what getting acne on the chin and jawline really mean.

Q: What does the acne on my chin and jaw line mean?

Dr. Rhoda: There are several reasons that can be attributed to getting acne around the chin and jaw area. For starters, hormonal imbalances, where there is an increase in progesterone, testosterone, and cortisol level occur. Of course, too much stress, poor hygiene, constant use of makeup, and poor lymphatic drainage can be the cause, too. When you find yourself in this sticky situation, I'd recommend using an anti-acne face wash and an anti-acne toner afterwards. Also, one common misconception that most girls have is that toothpaste is their best bud during acne season. But in reality, fluoride makes the skin more susceptible to acne. That's why I always advise my patients to wash their jaw and chin after brushing their teeth to wash away any residue.
