Let's face it, no matter how religious we are in following our skin care routine and no matter how much we try to avoid junk food to maintain a healthy lifestyle, getting a zit is inevitable and is bound to happen from time to time. Because going out of the house with a huge pimple smacked in the middle of the face isn't exactly a confidence booster, we double up our foundation and concealer application to hide the zit away. But pimples are a sign of inflamed and infected skin, and layering on makeup over makeup surely isn’t helping the skin recuperate right? To help us solve our beauty confusion, we asked dermatologist Dr. Raissa Francisco-Pasion to give us the lowdown.

Q: Is it safe to put foundation and concealer on a pimple?

Dr. Raissa: It's not necessarily bad to apply foundation and concealer on top of a pimple. Choose formulations that aren't too heavy and will allow your skin to breathe on top of its concealing factors. Oily formulations can clog pores and cause more breakouts, so look for makeup products in stores that are labeled "oil-free" or "non-comedogenic." Mineral-based makeup are also worth trying.

Apart from choosing the right products, it is also important to always apply makeup with clean brushes and fingers and make it a habit to thoroughly cleanse your skin at night. Toss out makeup that are past its expiration date!
